Tis the season…..no not Christmas, Valentines Day!! OK, we admit there’s something cheesy and commercial about teddy bears holding hearts, singing Hallmark cards and foil-wrapped chocolates shaped like roses. Even so, otherwise sane women can’t help but get swept up in the lovefest and demand a little extra TLC (and yeah, maybe some flowers too) come 2/14. Why? Why do women make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day? We’re glad you asked. Here goes:
Reason no. 1
We deserve it
Maybe for guys, spending Valentine’s Day solo means happily watching ESPN with a six-pack, but for chicks, facing the “holiday” on our own can suck. For starters, restaurants, movie theaters and even freakin’ drugstores are off-limits. Plus, all of our coupled-up friends are busy sipping champagne or getting engaged. So, when Valentine’s Day rolls around and we have a guy in our lives, you bet your ass we’re going to celebrate. Hopefully with him spoiling us with all kinds of cool stuff!
Reason no. 2
It brings back that early-in-the-relationship rush
Unless you’re in the throes of just-met bliss, men (OK, women too) tend to let romantic gestures fall by the wayside. Even if you used to be that guy who waited outside your girlfriend’s bedroom window holding a boom box over your head to show your love, (we all loved the movie Say Anything) chances are your idea of romance has backslid since then. So, for all those men out there whose most romantic gesture in recent history has been to let her command the remote, Valentine’s Day serves as a wake-up call. It’s a reason for men to remind us why we fell in love with them in the first place.
Reason no. 3
It’s kind of a competition
You’ve probably already picked up on the fact that women are competitive. Our jobs, our wardrobes, our bodies — we compare everything, especially our relationships. For us, Valentine’s Day is like the big game — we really want to win. Even if you haven’t been doing well all season, if you bring your A-game on February 14th, we’ll be bragging about you for weeks. Send us flowers at work and we’ll display them prominently for all our coworkers to see. Surprise us with dinner reservations at a romantic restaurant and we’ll sing your praises on our MySpace or FaceBook update. You get the point. Now think about it: Are you really gonna let that chick in the next cube show us up?
Reason no. 4
Valentine’s Day turns us on
All those mushy romantic gestures do more than make us want to cuddle; they also bring out our urge to get naked with the man we love. So, think of everything that comes before as foreplay and let Cupid inspire jaw-dropping, bed-shaking, wake-the-neighbors sex. Why else do you think we spend money on matching lingerie?

Even though you may groan at the mere thought of Valentine’s Day — or actually forget it all together — us girls here at sexucateme are hoping you’ll learn to like it at least a little bit.
